Mustafa Baygun
I was born and brought up in Cyprus where the solution to any kind of minor illness would be sought through traditional methods. For example, whenever I caught a cold as a child, my mother used to give me a massage with warmed-up olive oil followed by cupping with a glass specifically designed for the treatment. I was then put to bed and the very next day I would feel fully recovered. As a consequence I have always found traditional treatments fascinating although I never thought at the time that I would become a massage therapist. My early ambition was to be an artist or an illustrator as my greatest enjoyment was in drawing, painting, creating and designing in a figurative way. That's the best way I found to express my feelings and emotions, I guess.

For various reasons I could not study art at university so I studied business and administration instead and attended many private art classes just to feed my desire for creativity. I also mounted a successful exhibition of some of my paintings just before I moved to London in 1992. In London, I continued to attend art classes in St Martin's but had to work in retail to support myself, which somewhat dampened my creativity.

I am often asked what made me choose to be a massage therapist? Or what I enjoy the most about my job? And my answer would be, I don't know! All I know is that I love what I do, I care about the treatments I give and I always work with the same passion and creativity as I would on a painting! After trying out a couple of different careers, I have found a way of earning a living and being happy which I can highly recommend to anyone who feels stuck, whatever they do as a job!

Having moved to London and enrolled in evening courses to improve my English, I found a job at Monsoon & Accessories working in a management position for about seven years. At the same time, I joined a local gym and had my first course of professional massage treatments I was amazed with the positive results on my well being in general.

I decided to train as a massage therapist and enrolled at Westminster College and then at The City Lit, gaining qualifications in a variety of complimentary therapies. Ever since then I have been practising professionally operating my practise at different private clinics as well as doing charity work for The Flora London marathon. I also spent an amazing year gaining clinical experience at The Royal Free Hospital (2006-7) offering reflexology therapy to cancer patients.

As for everyone, it took me some time to build up my skills and my confidence as well as a loyal client list - including some celebrities both in the UK and America. I am now considered one of the most effective practitioners in complementary therapies. My aim is to continue to expand my knowledge and experience in alternative therapy and share them with others. As an intuitive therapist, the most satisfying part of my job is to see the expressions of relief and relaxation on my clients' faces after I have treated them that's real job satisfaction!
